Thank you for your interest in and engagement with the Rodeo-Hercules Fire Protection District (RHFPD), demonstrated by public turnout and participation at recent RHFPD, Rodeo Municipal Advisory Council, and Hercules City Council meetings. This announcement provides updates on two topics that generated a lot of comments: the annexation proposal and strategic planning.
Annexation Proposal. The RHFPD Board has made NO decision regarding annexation, and there will be NO decision made in August regarding RHFPD annexation. Two other fire protection districts, CCCFPD (“Con Fire”) and ECCFPD (“East County”), have made the decision to go forward with annexation. Con Fire and East County will continue to work with the Contra Costa Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) on their proposal for annexation. Con Fire’s annexation of East County is not dependent on RHFPD being a part of this process. This fact was stated by the AP Triton consultant at the feasibility study presentation on July 15, 2021, and by Con Fire’s Chief Broschard at RHFPD’s workshop on July 28, 2021. RHFPD is named in the LAFCO documents submitted by Con Fire and East County, for convenience in the event RHFPD decides in favor of annexation.
Strategic Planning. RHFPD will host a community event on August 5, 2021, 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., where we will ask for input on what priorities, metrics, and data should inform the development of a strategic plan for RHFPD. For example, the AP Triton study presented data on call volumes and average response times. That data gives us ways of measuring our District’s workload and service quality, but there are other important considerations in planning for RHFPD’s future. Please come with your ideas! The topic of strategic planning will be on the agenda at the Board’s regular meeting on August 11, 2021.
