The Christmas Coalition Story

Once again this year, the Christmas Coalition will try to make the holiday season a bit brighter in the northern portion of West Contra Costa County.

The centerpiece of the Christmas Coalition is the annual food and toy drive. Thanks to the hard work of a large group of individuals, and the generosity of our sponsors, the Christmas Coalition will provide food and toys to over 300 Crockett, Rodeo, Hercules and Pinole families.

But the food and toy drive is only part of the picture. The Christmas Coalition also tries to match up local needs with available resources. When the Hercules Lions Club needed turkeys and carvers and servers for its senior dinner, we responded. Folks in Rodeo wanted to revive the "Santa Comes to Rodeo" tradition, so the Christmas Coalition lined up Santa, arranged transportation, and supplied favors. A Crockett program wanted to add toys to its food program, so we provided them. Wherever a community holiday need arises, the Christmas Coalition tries to find a solution.

Over forty community groups - Chambers of Commerce to churches, civic clubs to homeowners associations, businesses large and small, scout troops, government entities, seniors groups, ethnic organizations, organized labor - and private citizens join together to make the program a success.

The cost of the Christmas Coalition is underwritten by generous sponsors, but everyone is welcome. Whether you collect toys and food, or donate cash, or supply volunteers for various activities, or identify needy recipients or worthwhile causes, or help with publicity, all assistance is welcome, and everyone that pitches in is listed on the roster of the Christmas Coalition .

The Christmas Coalition is managed through a steering committee.
